Pricing & Estimates

How much does a move cost in NJ?

Cost depends on the size of your move, distance, and how much labor and time it requires. We ask for an itemized list, photos, or an in-person walkthrough before locking in a number. See how moving estimates work →

Is the estimate binding, or can the price change on moving day?

Estimates are non-binding unless we've agreed otherwise in writing. A walkthrough beforehand keeps the number accurate, and you'll get a written expectations document once you approve. See the difference between estimate types →

Do you charge by the hour or a flat rate?

We use straightforward hourly pricing — a crew rate per mover and driver, with a 3-hour minimum — so you only pay for the time and labor your move actually needs.

Is a deposit required to book?

Yes. A deposit secures your move date and crew, and the remaining balance is due at arrival and/or upon completion. Placing a larger deposit upfront can save you up to 8% off your total.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit/debit cards and cash. Card payments may include a small processing fee; paying by cash avoids that.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes — up to 8% off for larger upfront deposits, plus a dedicated military discount for service members and their families.

Should I tip my movers?

Tipping isn't required, but it's customary when the crew does a great job. Most South Jersey homeowners tip $4–$6 per mover per hour, or $20–$80 per mover for a full day. See the full NJ tipping guide →

Does moving on a weekend cost more?

Yes — weekend demand is consistently higher, so rates tend to be higher on Saturdays and Sundays. If your schedule has any flexibility, Monday through Thursday is usually the more affordable window. See why weekends cost more and how to save →

What's the most affordable time of year to move in NJ?

Fall and winter weekdays — after Labor Day through late spring — are consistently the most affordable combination. Demand drops after the summer peak and movers have more scheduling flexibility. See the full seasonal cost breakdown →

What's Included

Are packing materials and boxes included?

Yes. Every move includes basic moving supplies as a starting point. We also offer dedicated box and material delivery plus eco-friendly plastic bin rentals if you need more. See why bins beat cardboard →

Is furniture disassembly and reassembly included?

Yes. Disassembly and reassembly of basic furniture is a standard part of every residential move, along with padding, shrink wrap, and door/stair/floor protection.

Can you move specialty items like pianos?

Yes. We have dedicated equipment and a trained crew for piano moves, and our white-glove service covers other delicate, oversized, or high-value items.

Do you offer labor-only help if I already have a truck?

Yes — our labor-for-hire service is built for exactly that. If you already have a truck, container, or rental, our crew shows up just to load, unload, or rearrange.

Is storage available if my move-in and move-out dates don't line up?

Yes. We offer storage options to bridge the gap when there's a delay between move-out and move-in.

What does full-service moving actually include?

Full-service covers packing, loading, transportation, unloading, and basic reassembly — all in one booking. You can also add unpacking, bin rental, or specialty handling for fragile items. See exactly what full-service packing and moving includes →

Booking & Scheduling

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking 2 to 4 weeks ahead, especially during peak season (May through September). Same-day local moves are sometimes possible depending on the crew's schedule. See the best times to book by season →

Can I change or cancel my moving date?

Reach out by phone, text, or chat (available 24/7) and we'll work with your new timeline. The earlier you let us know, the more scheduling flexibility we can offer.

Do you move on weekends or holidays?

Yes — we're available Monday through Friday around the clock, and Saturday–Sunday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. For holiday availability, confirm directly with our team. See our holiday moving guide →

What areas of New Jersey do you serve?

We serve 11 counties across New Jersey, with Burlington County as our primary base: Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic, Ocean, Monmouth, Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, and Hunterdon. See our full service area for details.

What should I ask a moving company before hiring them?

Ask about licensing and insurance, how they handle damage claims, what their minimum hours are, and whether the estimate is binding. We've put together the full checklist. See the 10 questions to ask any mover →

Can you handle same-day or last-minute moves?

Yes — we accommodate last-minute and same-day requests based on crew availability. The earlier you call, the more flexibility we can offer. Keep in mind last-minute bookings can carry hidden costs if you're not prepared. See the hidden costs to watch for →

When is the best time of year to move in South Jersey?

Fall (September–November) and winter weekdays are generally the best combination — cooler weather, lower demand, and more flexibility from reputable movers. Summer weekends are the most expensive and hardest to book. See the full seasonal guide →

Packing & Unpacking

Do you offer professional packing services?

Yes — full and partial packing are available. Full packing means our crew handles every room; partial means you choose the categories (fragile items, the kitchen, the closets) and handle the rest yourself. See how packing services work →

Can you pack my home without doing the actual move?

Yes. Packing-only service is common for people who want help with the most time-consuming part but already have a crew lined up, or are handling the move themselves. See our packing and unpacking services →

Are plastic moving bins better than cardboard boxes?

For most moves, yes. Bins don't collapse under real weight, need no assembly or tape, hold their shape in the truck, and are sanitized between rentals. The main advantage of cardboard is upfront familiarity. See the full bins vs. cardboard comparison →

Do you offer unpacking services at the new home?

Yes. Unpacking is available as an add-on to any move — our crew places items in the right rooms and gets everything out of boxes the same day so you're not living out of cardboard for a week. See the room-by-room unpacking guide →

How do you protect fragile or high-value items during packing?

Glassware, electronics, antiques, and artwork get wrapped with appropriate materials — bubble wrap, packing paper, anti-static covers, and custom crating for high-value pieces. Mention anything unusual when you book so we bring the right materials. See how white-glove packing works →

Long-Distance Moving

Do you handle long-distance moves from New Jersey?

Yes. We handle long-distance relocations out of NJ as well as moves into the state. Our team coordinates packing, transportation, and delivery as one job rather than requiring you to piece it together. See our long-distance moving guide →

Can you move a small amount cross-country?

Yes. Small cross-country moves — a studio apartment, a few rooms, or just furniture — have different logistics than a full household move, but we handle them regularly. See what to expect for small cross-country moves →

How is long-distance pricing different from a local move?

Long-distance moves are typically priced by weight and mileage rather than hourly, since the job spans more than one day. A binding estimate is much more important for a long-distance move than a local one. See how long-distance pricing works →

How long does a long-distance move take?

Delivery windows vary by distance — a move within the mid-Atlantic region may arrive next day, while a cross-country move can take 1–2 weeks. Your estimate will include a delivery window based on your specific route. See the full timeline breakdown →

White-Glove & Estate Moving

What is white-glove moving?

White-glove moving is a premium level of service where every item is handled with exceptional care — custom wrapping, custom crating for high-value pieces, furniture placement at the destination, and full debris removal. It's the choice when ordinary handling isn't enough. See what white-glove moving includes →

Do you handle large estate and mansion moves?

Yes. We specialize in full estate moves — large homes with significant furniture, collections, or multiple outbuildings — where the logistics go well beyond a standard residential job. See our estate and mansion moving services →

Can you move antiques, artwork, or irreplaceable items?

Yes. Antiques, original artwork, sculptures, and heirlooms require wrapping materials and handling techniques that go beyond what a standard move uses. Mention any specific pieces during your estimate so we come prepared with the right materials and crew. See how we handle high-value items →

What's the difference between white-glove service and a standard move?

Standard moving handles your belongings with care — blanket padding, shrink wrap, standard protection. White-glove goes further: custom crating, hands-on placement in the new home, full interior protection (floor runners, door jamb guards), and removal of all packing materials when we're done. See the full comparison →

Commercial & Office Moves

Do you handle office and commercial moves?

Yes. We handle office relocations, retail moves, and other commercial jobs across NJ — including equipment, workstations, filing systems, and anything else your business needs relocated. See our commercial moving guide →

Can you move our office on a weekend to avoid business downtime?

Yes. Weekend and after-hours commercial moves are common for exactly this reason. We plan around your business schedule, not ours. See our commercial office moving services →

Do you handle event setup, teardown, or venue moves?

Yes. We move furniture, equipment, and fixtures for events, staging setups, trade shows, and venue transitions. See what event moving services include →

How is a commercial move different from a residential move?

Commercial moves involve different equipment (IT gear, filing systems, commercial furniture), stricter building access requirements, and tighter downtime windows. We coordinate building management, parking, and elevator reservations as part of the job. See what to expect for an office move →

Senior & Life-Transition Moving

What makes senior moving different from a standard move?

Senior moves typically involve more coordination, more patience, and more care for both belongings and the individual. There's often a downsizing component, a care facility involved, or family members coordinating from a distance. We move at the right pace — not a rushed one. See our life-transition moving services →

Do you help with downsizing before a senior move?

We can coordinate around a downsizing timeline — working with what's staying, what's going to family, and what's being donated or sold. We don't rush this process. For estate-level downsizing, our white-glove estate service is the right fit.

How far in advance should a senior move be planned?

6 to 8 weeks is ideal, especially if there's a facility move-in date, a property sale deadline, or downsizing that needs to happen first. The more lead time, the calmer and more controlled the process. Reach out early — even just to talk through the timeline.

Can family members be present during a senior move?

Yes, and we encourage it. Family presence during a senior or life-transition move makes a real difference — both for the individual moving and for coordination on the day. We work with whoever is on-site.

Insurance & Liability

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Keep It Moving Services is fully licensed and insured — NJPM 39PM00500100, USDOT 4197741, MC 1719484. See our licenses & certifications page for documentation.

What happens if something gets damaged during my move?

Claims must be submitted in writing within 90 days of delivery, with supporting documentation like photos and a description of the damage. We follow a repair → replace → insurance claim process, in that order.

Do I need a Certificate of Insurance (COI) for my building?

Many apartment buildings and offices require a COI before move day. We provide these through our COI services — give us advance notice, since additional fees may apply.

What items won't you transport?

We don't transport or insure cash, jewelry, important documents, or hazardous and illegal materials.

Moving Day

What should I do to prepare before movers arrive?

Put together an itemized inventory, a timeline with key deadlines, a budget, and a note of any special handling needs. Declutter and box up loose items beforehand — disorganized spaces are one of the most common sources of moving day delays. See how to prep your garage specifically →

Do I need to be present during the move?

Yes — you or an assigned representative should be present, particularly for the final walkthrough at both pickup and drop-off.

What if there are stairs, elevators, or parking restrictions?

Let us know about any access challenges when you request your estimate. You're responsible for arranging parking and elevator reservations — delays caused by undisclosed access issues may incur additional fees.

How long does a typical local move take?

Local moves usually run 3 to 5 hours depending on home size and access, and are typically completed in a single day.

How should I prepare my garage before the movers arrive?

Sort, purge, and box up loose items before the crew arrives — a disorganized garage is one of the most common sources of delays on moving day. Label everything clearly so nothing ends up in the wrong truck. See the full garage prep guide →

What should I do right after the movers leave?

Start with the rooms you use daily — kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms — and unpack one room completely before moving to the next. Don't let empty boxes pile up in hallways or the process stalls fast. See the room-by-room unpacking guide →
